Homeless, addicted to drugs and in poor health, Ron spent more than 30 years on a journey leading toward death.
"I was tired of having nothing and everyone looking down on me. But I was also hungry and I didn't care where the food came from. So I came to the Mission," Ron says. "But I found more than a hot meal here. I found hope."
Shortly after Ron arrived, he entered one of the Mission's recovery programs, and later started working in the kitchen. The Mission gladly offered him a part-time job to continue cooking - and to offer the same hope he received to others. "Probably half the people I'm feeding today are people I used to get high with, Ron says. "Now I'm a walking testimony to them. They ask me how I did it and I tell them how Jesus came into my life."
Ron knows, "a lot of people come here to get a meal. But we feed them spiritually too. It always starts with a meal. But that meal gives you hope. All you gotta do is reach out for it."
When precious men like Ron find hope, they also find the courage they need to join our intensive recovery program. And that choice sets each one on a new journey, a new transition toward healing and wholeness.
