Climb Out of Homelessness
"You will never be the same."
The Climb Out Of Homelessness program uses alpine mountaineering, and the preparation for it, to build new healthy lifestyle habits and relationships for homeless men and women in our addiction recovery programs.
Many program participants have no prior knowledge of how to enjoy life sober, having relied on the negative coping behaviors of drug and alcohol abuse.
2015 Mt. Rainier Climb
After months of training, several men and women from Seattle's Union Gospel Mission and Tacoma Rescue Mission will attempt to climb and summit Mt. Rainier in August 2015. Follow us on Facebook for updates!
By climbing Mt. Rainier at the same time as climbing out of homelessness and addiction, program participants simultaneously discover their own potential and learn the positive, healing and transforming value of time spent with good friends in truly amazing outdoor environments.
Special thanks to our sponsors and partners
The Climb Out of Homelessness shares leadership with several key staff at the The Rescue Mission in Tacoma. Whittaker Mountaineering provides generous support through rentals and training. Professional guides from Rainier Mountaineers Incorporated (RMI) and International Mountain Guides volunteer their time off the clock in order to help lead our recovery climbers to new heights. We also have the support of The Sierra Club Foundation, donors, and our volunteer trainers.
We are so grateful to all of them for investing in the lives and futures of the brave men and women who will be climbing out of addiction and homelessness this year.
